Almost 2 years without my best girl. I felt a piece of my soul die when I watched you take your last breath. I can't sing the sunshine song anymore. I haven't been to my childhood house in over a year because all I see is you taking your last breath in the backyard. I see the gate where the vet walked out with you in the basket, never to see your curly gray and white fur again. all I have is your ashes now. I got so lucky with you as my first dog. I know it's left a hole I'll never be able to fill again. May 16th is a hard day. You were the closest thing I'll ever have to a sister. You were never really a dog to me; you were my whole world and my family. The vet confirmed you were forcing yourself to keep breathing, even though the tumor had grown around your lungs and was constricting them. We had no idea. You were such a force of nature and one of the strongest beings I've ever known. I'm grateful for the time we got, but I really wish we had more time. I didn't even get a full year with you after leaving my abuser. But I did it. I got free. And you held on to make sure I was safe and happy. And now you're free too. No more tiny little legs. No more health issues. No more arthritis. You're heaven side now with my momma. Keep each other company until I'm up there. I'll see you soon enough. Till we meet again my Mitzi girl. Almost a year ago, 05/16/24 our sweet Kurtis passed away due to the negligence of a friend who I trusted to care for him while we went on a 3 day getaway for our anniversary. My fiance and I said goodbye to our 3 pets and went on a vacation only 30 min from our home for 3 days. I left them in the care of my best friend who I trusted and even worked with in the animal care industry. On our last morning away, I woke up to several missed calls from my friend from around 5am. When I called back, she simply said she needed a tampon but found them. Before hanging up, she casually stated that she hadn’t seen Kurtis that morning before she left for work. My fiance and I instantly knew something was up because Kurtis never missed a meal in his life and was never the kind of cat to hide. Anxious, we drove home, to find him no where in the apartment despite tearing the place apart. I called my friend frantic and asked what happened. We got little sympathy, no explanation, nothing. We then found out he went missing the night before. We spent all day looking for him, talking to the neighbors, putting up signs, and had a very sleepless night. The next morning we woke up, went down to the car, and I found his little body laying in the dirt, with his face bashed in and covered in ants. Kurtis was the sweetest, silliest, friendliest, most amazing cat I’ve ever owned, and none will compare. It’s already a year later and I have panic attacks when I can’t find our cats. I can’t have people over without monitoring their every move to make sure no doors get left open. I will never be able to fully trust someone to watch them. Kurtis didn’t deserve to go the way he did. I will never forgive the person who did this to him and us. R.I.P my sweet boy. You will be forever loved and missed. #petloss #petlossgrief
