Ironman recovery 101 — Tips below!! 1. HAIR RECOVERY: Post-race, use a detangling brush in the shower with deep conditioner, not after. I always do lots of hair masks and use lots of oil in the days following (but still learning how to dial in the hair for race day lol) 😂 2. TRAVELING HOME: Pack recovery tools (compression socks, protein snacks, electrolytes) in your carry-on and book yourself aisle seats so you can stand and stretch every hour or two. 3. TOENAILS (RIP): Bring flip-flops or slides for after the race / flights. When you get home, soak your feet in Epsom salt baths — it helps with infection, inflammation, and pain. 4. HUNGER + NUTRITION: Prioritize carbs and protein (even if you’re not hungry). Skip raw veggies at first — they’re hard to digest after you race! Go for cooked meals, salt, and starch, and drink electrolytes for at least a few days post-race. Recovery is an event in itself — give it the same care and intention you gave race day. Pierwsza Otyliada za nami, oczekiwań wobec tego wydarzenia sportowego nie miałam żadnych gdyż w październiku 2023 dopiero zaczęłam się uczyć pływać i to SAMA z filmów w internecie ! Jedynie co chciałam to wytrwać 12h, ale od 8km walczyłam już z bólem barków i z wyziębianiem organizmu. Każda 30sek przerwa kończyła się drgawkami, każda przerwa na toaletę, czy jedzenie powodowała zastanie się mięśni i ponowy ogromny ból w barkach... Od północy minuty trwały jak godziny, i mogę szczerze powiedzieć, że cały dystans niosło mnie jedynie serce . To była piękna podroz, samej ze sobą. I was scared of a 1 mile run ⬇️ I remember when I was 18 years old playing hockey and there’s a teammate of mine who would run 1 mile on the treadmill every other day. I walked around the gym and when he was running out 1 mile I thought to myself how the heck is he running for 10 minutes straight. Are used to only run for maybe 30-40 seconds at a time for Hockey training. Fast-forward to today, I’ve ran dozens of endurance. Events ranging from half marathon races to full IronMan’s to ultra distance running. So what was the difference between my myself that was scared of running 1 mile to myself today? I slowly trained my way up fitness wise. I put in the hours. (Still am). I signed up for the race, even though I was scared. I committed to races that scared me. Because I know that I will find a way. Maybe that’s the thing for you to figure out. You need to commit and figure it out. Because if you don’t, you’re not gonna overcome the fears that you have today. Take it slow, be patient, but always know that you can improve. The more time you spend on, the better you will get at it. Running, swimming, cycling, lifting weights, reading, guitar, piano… it’s simple. Go out there and do that thing you’re scared of doing! your future self will thank you. HOW TO FLIP TURN 💥: STEP 4️⃣ & STEP 5️⃣ Now that you’ve learned how to flip at the wall, it’s time to focus on pushing off efficiently and transitioning smoothly. A strong push-off and a well-timed rotation are key to maintaining speed and momentum into your next lap. 🔷 Step 4: The push-off Once you’ve accomplished step three, step four is actually pushing off the wall. Push off on your back! Do not rotate at the wall! One of the biggest mistakes swimmers make is rotating too early. So first, push off flat on your back in a streamline position. 🔷 Step 5: Rotate & Transition smoothly Now that you’ve pushed off in streamline, it’s time to rotate and transition into your next stroke. Can’t say this often enough: The key is to push off first, then rotate. Rotating too early creates unnecessary drag and slows you down. After pushing off, engage your core & use underwater kicks (either dolphin kicks or flutter kicks) to rotate onto your stomach while maintaining speed. Your arms should stay in streamline throughout the rotation. Once you’ve rotated onto your stomach, start your first strokes as your head begins to break the surface. 🚨 Common mistakes to avoid: ⚠️ Rotating too early ⚠️ Losing streamline position ⚠️ Kicking too soon – Let your push-off do the work before engaging your kick.
