Our family made an underwater porthole for a photo! 🐟💙 #NetflixPartner When @Netflix asked us to help celebrate Earth Week by making a magical photo, we decided to create an underwater scene inspired by the Netflix documentary “My Octopus Teacher”. This documentary follows the hero, Craig, and his magical relationship with an octopus! It had us all in tears, and it made us think further about the small and big ways we can continue to encourage our kids to respect and connect with the beauty found in nature. Oliver has always cared for all creatures, from tiny ants to giant whales, so we wanted to portray his love of nature by showing his connection with his favorite animal, the octopus. We repurposed octopus tentacles we had made for a different photo by painting them, then thrifted as much of the props as possible, and handmade the rest. It took us three separate tries to finally capture it all 😅. By the third time, we decided to head out before sunrise to give ourselves the best possible chance at capturing this moment, and it finally worked! We used ocean water to fill our glass aquarium, natural food dye from vegetables to darken the water, and seaweed we found at the beach to bring the underwater scene together. Just like this photoshoot, sometimes you have to try and try again to make a difference, and that’s what we hope to teach our kids: never give up! Even though Earth Week has passed, our family will continue to appreciate nature year round. Our family made a room float for a photo! 😳🪼💙#CanonPartner For this photo, we wanted to capture a floating, underwater dream world in-camera, so we got to work! We decided to make jellyfish props that looked real on camera, so we did a bunch of research and brainstorming. We ended up doing a combination of hot glue, fiber optic lights, LED strips lights, and ribbon. We had one chance to capture this photo because we were leaving on a two week trip the next day. Eloise rested on the platform while Emma steered the bubbles, Oliver moved the jellyfish, Nick handled the leaf blower, and I captured it all with my @canonusa EOS R5 Mark II and RF24mm F1.4 L VCM Lens. This is such a powerful duo! This is so helpful when I am capturing behind the scenes as well as the final photo! I can’t believe how well Canon’s new RF L Series Hybrid lenses can capture handheld video. #ad #ad We transported our kids into a real life vintage TV! 📺😳 For this photo, we wanted to create a real life black and white movie scene, captured entirely in camera through an old TV, so we painted our pink photo set gray, reused a checkered floor from another past photo, and went searching for some antique props. We found an old TV, table, chairs, frames, and a vase. The vintage TV had been turned into a pet bed, so we took the back out of it, cleaned it, disinfected it with @Lysol US Disinfectant Spray, and cut a TV sized hole out of a foam board to make it look like a wall. After that, we painted the rest of the props gray, and then it was time for the photo! We covered Oliver and Eloise from head to toe in gray makeup and hair spray 😅, Nick handled the behind the scenes filming, and I captured the photo. We couldn’t believe how real the set looked through the TV, and the kids said this is their new favorite photo ever 🥹. That one time family made a Millennium Falcon cockpit 😳✨ May the Fourth be with you…To build the cockpit, we grabbed lots of wood, foam, plastic sheets, paint, hundreds of LED lights, and 20 lbs of LEGO bricks then we got to work!
