my brother wanted to be in charge of bath time. I honored that because 1. I trust his capability, and 2. he never fails in rising to the occasion when he is the only one available to meet the need. with the door open, I walked by the bathroom every few minutes as I got everything in place for bed time. the second time I passed by, uncle Matt was wiping the floor in front of the tub… and that’s when I realized he was both more aware of his nephew’s decreased mobility than he had previously let on and that he was prepared to keep him safe. 🥹 that’s also when I decided I had better capture a few moments of my brother being a proactive and protective uncle, because people continue to insist he couldn’t possibly be one, let alone both, of those qualities. it’s world Down syndrome day tomorrow!! let’s continue to show the world that ALL individuals with Down syndrome are worth celebrating — both the uncle who is caregiving, inspiring, and accomplishing AND the nephew who is depending on his uncle to meet his every need. #thoughtful #uncle #safetyfirst #downsyndrome #fyp #caregiving #wholesomeplottwist
