MONACO As the biggest race of the year approaches fast and hard, I thought I’d reshare one of my favourites. To celebrate @tagheuer and their long standing relationship with F1 and legendary driver Ayrton Senna, I made this artwork using a simple colour palette and composition inspired by the Monaco watch. ‘Monaco’ Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas 102 x 102cm This artwork is not for sale. ‘True Blue’ Every artist craves recognition from the big institutions of art. Including me. The Archibald Prize is rewarded to one artist who paints the best portrait in Australia. Administered by the @artgalleryofnsw it’s a simple brief with very few restrictions which also makes it very difficult to win, let alone become a finalist. Artists normally try find the most influential Australian they can and spend months creating their masterpiece but I had to finish the painting in four days before we left overseas. To make matters worse I am not a portrait painter by any standard even though I’ve painted literally thousands of people. So I painted myself holding a bucket of paint and a big brush. ‘True Blue’ is a term used by Australians to identify something or someone truly Australian. Although both my kids and my fiancé are Aussie, I was born and bred in South Africa, making me anything but True Blue. Of course I entered hoping I could win but knowing my time won’t come yet. I won’t say I feel sad for not even being a finalist either. This painting was only the first of many entries to come over the next few years and I can’t wait to see who I paint next year. ‘True Blue’ Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas 102 x 102cm #trueblue #archibaldprize

TENNIS My favourite sport to play as a kid was tennis. The act of running after a fuzzy ball and hitting it over a net appealed to a boy like me that couldn’t sit still. Now I rarely play it but boy do I love painting tennis related artworks. As you can see I mostly use a Rothcourt style which I first tried out last year for my Forbidden Grass collection but since then I’ve ventured into some of the many iconic courts of the world. ‘Let’s Clay’ (2025) 41 x 31cm ‘Sinner or Saint’ (2025) 41 x 31cm ‘Rothcourt’ (2024) 41 x 31cm ‘Three Shades of Grey’ (2025) 41 x 31cm ‘Deuce’ (2025) 97 x 72cm ‘All For Love’ (2025) 132 x 102cm ‘Centre of Attention’ (2024) 163 x 123cm

‘All For Love’ Clay courts have this mesmerising look and feel. Rich colours and rough textures is what I wanted to capture in this artwork, attained by mixing raw oxide pigments into my thick paint. Painted on top are two female tennis figures playing a rather eventful game. Both are captured in a moment of intensity, clothed in bold, striking colours. I chose this title as a slight nod to the game of tennis. ‘Love’ means ‘nothing’. Literally. But of course all tennis players will know that there is a lot of intense dedication, sacrifice and of course love involved in the game. ‘All For Love’ Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas 103 x 132cm This artwork will be made available upon the release of my current collection ‘CRACK’. ‘No Friends On A Powder Day’ I made this artwork 5 months ago and this is the first time I’m seeing the videos of my process. If you’re thinking ‘Gosh, that’s a big painting’ or ‘Wow, that’s a lot of paint’ then you’re not alone. 10 litres of paint is actually quite tricky to spread on a canvas bigger than me. This is by far my biggest single artwork and despite its size, it also features one of my smallest figures yet- a skier smaller than your pinky nail. I made this artwork in celebration of my first collection ‘The White Stripes’ as part of a four piece mini series named ‘Throwback’. On the day of release, this artwork was sold within a couple of minutes. ‘No Friends On A Powder Day’ Acrylic Gel on Canvas 213 x 183cm The best way to find out about releases is to join my email newsletter via my website 🫶🏼 #wernerbronkhorst #nofriendsonapowderday

There are few things as satisfying as working with charcoal. I first started drawing larger works when I was 16 and now I mainly focus on drawing blurred motion photographs of old cars- especially Porsches. This artwork is currently on show at my exhibition in Seoul with @groundseesaw and will be one of only three artworks for sale. The auction ends this Sunday! Please visit the @groundseesaw website for details or sign up to my newsletter for reminders on future releases. ‘Life Moves Pretty Fast’ 123 x 144cm Charcoal and Acrylic Gel on Canvas #lifemovesprettyfast #wernerbronkhorst #groundseesaw

SPRINT 🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏼 My father was a professional athlete and made sure that my sister and I trained to become one as well. I remember spending most afternoons and weekends on a red athletics track not too far from home. It was both my favourite and most dreaded time of day- out under the burning South African sun, running for dear life. As such I painted 3 figures running underneath a harsh morning sun, using a burnt red pigment in my paint. ‘SPRINT’ 41 x 71cm Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas This artwork will not be for sale but printed editions will be available after my ‘CRACK’ exhibition later this year. CARRERA Arguably the most beautiful car in the world. I painted on this sculpture as part of a series of three ‘Art Cars’ for @tagheuer and their boutique in Sydney. It was both a challenge and a pleasure to work on such an amazing project especially because it involved my favourite cars ever- various Porsche Carreras from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. These can be seen racing on a red Australian Grand Prix circuit with a blue fade in the background. This artwork is not for sale. To view it in person, feel free to visit the Sydney Westfield Tag Heuer boutique. #tagheuer #wernerbronkhorst #carrera

‘Monaco Warmup’ 🏎️ I haven’t shared this artwork with anyone even though I made it 3 months ago. I kept it for today as a special tribute to Ayrton Senna in his legendary Marlboro @mclaren in the one and only Monaco. It’s a smaller version of my artwork ‘Monaco’ which features a similar composition, both of which are inspired by the design elements of the iconic Monaco @tagheuer watch. ‘Monaco Warmup’ Acrylic Gel on Canvas 42 x 42cm The best way to find out about releases is to join my email newsletter via my website 📧 #wernerbronkhorst #monacowarmup #senna #monaco #tagheuer

‘Caravan Life’ In case you haven’t noticed, the background changed from a very chaotic composition to one with a simple curve repeated diagonally. There’s a sense of continuity in this artwork despite its borders, almost as though you can feel the never-ending dunes extend far and wide with only a couple of camels to keep it company. The saturated orange pigment creates quite an intense feeling when you stand in front of the painting which is exactly what I love about it. Just like any big desert it’s mesmerising and intense yet completely calming. ‘Caravan Life’ Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas 123 x 162cm This artwork will not be for sale but printed editions will be available after my exhibition in Dubai later this year. Can’t believe this was only a year and a half ago. I think everyone loves music but as an artist you have so much time available to listen to music that you end up becoming obsessed with it. Although I grew up with all my girl friends listening to One Direction, I could never get quite into it. Years later I decided to date a Directioner and Lo and Behold, I was made into a fan of Harry Styles, Charli’s favourite. At the time this artwork was made, Harry styles had a concert here in Sydney and after going there I started listening to Harry Styles’ music so much that I felt compelled to make an artwork that celebrated him, his band members and his fans. Gosh. So much has changed in the past year and a half and looking back at this feels so nostalgic.

She’s a pink pony girl I simply couldn’t resist making an artwork inspired by the song ‘Pink Pony Club’. We often go on little road trips as a family and when we do, @Charli Te Puia usually needs to play this song at least once to satisfy her needs. As is usually the case, I initially doubt her taste in music and yet I soon start singing out loud with her. ‘Pink Pony Club’ 41 x 71cm Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas This artwork will be for sale at my ‘CRACK’ exhibition later this year. Get up offa that thing! Launching this next collection very hard with my first and favourite artwork: YEEHAW! For those of you who haven’t guessed the name yet, here are some hints: A whip can do it, a rock can do it and even thunder. It also happens to be the name of a Doja Cat song. Any guesses? ‘YEEHAW’ Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas 102 x 102cm #wernerbronkhorst #crack #yeehaw

‘Bath Salt’ You don’t often find pink naturally out in the wild but salt farms are always a treasure trove for unique colourful landscapes. I wondered what it would be like swimming in a salty lake and figured I may as well paint a scene where people are relaxing in what seems to be a pink pool. Taking a bath with salt is supposedly calming and given this soft pink hue of the paint felt relaxing, I thought of naming it ‘Bath Salt’. ‘Bath Salt’ Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas 143 x 143cm This artwork is part of a diptych which will be for sale after my exhibition in Dubai. Speedboats, sailboats, catamarans, yachts, megayachts and even cruise ships… I’ve painted them all and gosh do I love it. For millenia humans have relied on boats to cross channels, oceans and seas to explore new territories, conquer new lands and open new trade routes. There’s no doubt that my Dutch and German ancestors arrived in Namibia and South Africa by way of boat too, just like the many millions of others. Although I grew up a six hour drive from the nearest ocean, I have always loved being on boats and naturally I have included them in my works of art, especially in my last collection ‘WET’.

‘Hot Spot’ I was working on another artwork called ‘Bath Salt’ which had a similar composition- a background made of strokes spread in all directions except for the centre which had a lightly coloured square. I was wearing a butter yellow shirt and my watch had a matching colour which I loved so much I made this piece! ‘Hot Spot’ features a broad variety of people relaxing under a harsh sun on a yellow beach. The exact thing that makes me miss summer days in Sydney! ‘Hot Spot’ 143 x 143cm Acrylic and Acrylic Gel This artwork will not be for sale but printed editions will be available after my ‘CRACK’ exhibition later this year. Calm in the chaos Despite the chaos of the cosmos, humans have always tried to create structure and order. Whether it’s plants grown in organised rows, rocks carved into flat surfaces or wood milled into straight beams, man’s efforts to control nature is seen everywhere. I’m no different. These artworks are a great example of the chaos that can be found in nature. I often see the thickly painted backgrounds of these paintings as abstract representations of the world as a whole. A mix of paint going in all different directions with no rhyme or reason. Then the tiny figures are painted. Regardless of their activities, I approach each painting with a deep desire for regularity and order. With all the grooves and bumps, it’s difficult to create perfect symmetry but my attempts are still there to create paintings that are both overly chaotic and calmingly simple. ‘Burnt Out’ (2023) 102 x 102cm ‘Bondi Sands’ (2022) 102 x 102cm ‘Swell Day’ (2023) 102 x 102cm ‘Snowflakes’ (2024) 183 x 183cm ‘Ski Free’ (2024) 123 x 163cm ‘Gone Clubbing’ (2024) 102 x 102cm ‘Good Greens’ (2024) 143 x 143cm ‘Wet Dreams’ (2025) 183 x 183cm ‘Blue Water High’ (2024) 143 x 143cm

After making my artwork ‘YeeHaw’ I had some sandy coloured paint left which I decided to use for this canvas. It ended up looking like a typical beach in Sydney before people start setting up their umbrellas. I did however want to add umbrellas but not the figures. On a hot day like this, you best bet these people are going for a swim. ‘Gone Swimming’ 41 x 71cm Acrylic and Acrylic Gel on Canvas This artwork will be for sale at my ‘CRACK’ exhibition later this year.
