New footage released by U.S. Coast Guard shows the moment Wendy Rush heard the fatal implosion of the Titan submersible in June 2023 as her husband, Stockton Rush the CEO of OceanGate and designer of the sub, was onboard. He and four others were killed in the incident, about 90 minutes into a descent to see the Titanic shipwreck. “What was that bang?” Wendy Rush can be heard saying in the video, as she looks over to Gary Foss. Both of them were part of the communications and tracking team for the submersible and were on its support vessel, the Polar Prince, at the time. #titansub #titan #submersible #titanic #oceangate

New satellite photos from Maxar Technologies show the aftermath of the U.S. military strike that dropped multiple 30,000-pound "bunker-buster" bombs on Iran's Fordo nuclear facility and hit two other key locations in Iran's nuclear program. The stealth U.S. mission, dubbed "Operation Midnight Hammer," struck three nuclear facilities in Iran — Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan — in the early hours of Sunday local time. They can be compared to images of the same location taken before the strikes. #news #iran #trump

A correspondent for Australian news outlet 9News was shot with a rubber bullet that was fired by a police officer while she was covering the Los Angeles protests. The moment was captured on video moments after she finished a report and the outlet confirmed the incident, saying the U.S. correspondent, Lauren Tomasi, was shot in the leg by the officer “who was standing guard in the city’s downtown district.” The protests erupted amid the government’s heightened ICE operations in the city and nationwide, and tensions escalated on Sunday in response to President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard. “Just seconds after she wrapped up a live cross to Australia, one of the officers turned his gun towards Tomasi and fired at her from close range,” the outlet said. “She yelled in pain before the camera turned away. Tomasi was left sore but otherwise unharmed.” The publisher of the outlet said that the correspondent and her camera operator “are safe and will continue their essential work covering these events.” “This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers journalists can face while reporting from the frontlines of protests, underscoring the importance of their role in providing vital information,” the publisher, Nine, said. #losangeles #la #california #protest #police #journalist #immigration #ice #australia

A raccoon was caught holding a meth pipe during a traffic stop in Springfield Township, Ohio, footage from police shows. An officer conducted a traffic stop because the car's registered owner had an active warrant and suspended driver's license, according to the Springfield Township Police Department. After the stop, "things took an unusual turn," police said, when a "pet" raccoon named Chewy was seen with a meth pipe in its mouth. The discovery led police to inspect the car further and find a bulk amount of methamphetamine, crack cocaine and three used glass meth pipes, authorities said. The driver faces multiple charges, including possession of drugs, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and citation for driving under suspension. Chewy was unharmed, police said, and authorities are looking to determine whether the driver had proper documentation to own the raccoon. #raccoon #ohio #springfieldtownship

A Florida sheriff warned protesters in a press conference on Thursday that "we will kill you, graveyard dead" if they throw weapons or point a gun at officers. "If you hit one of us, you’re going to the hospital and jail, and most likely get bitten by one of our big, beautiful dogs that we have here," Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said an event with local law enforcement that declared Florida as "The Anti-Riot State." "If you throw a brick, a fire bomb, or a pointed gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains at. Because we will kill you, graveyard dead." Ivey said earlier in his statement that "peaceful protests are part of our democracy, but the key word in that is peaceful." #protest #florida #fl #law #crime #police

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine has given the first details of “Operation Midnight Hammer,” the mission to carry out a trio of U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Caine said it was a “highly classified mission with very few people in Washington knowing the details of the plan.” More than 125 U.S. aircraft participated in the mission, including B-2 stealth bombers. Caine also said it will take "some time" to determine the impact of the strikes, but added that the initial "battle damage assessments" indicate that all three sites "sustained extremely severe damage and destruction."  #news #iran #trump #military #nuclear #pentagon

Iran “has all that it needs” to create a nuclear weapon, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said after reading a statement by President Trump announcing he will make a decision on whether to order a U.S. strike on Iran “within two weeks.” Leavitt told reporters at the White House Thursday that all Iran needs “is a decision from the Supreme Leader to do that, and it would take a couple of weeks to complete the production of that weapon,”which would pose an "existential threat" to the world.

LOCUST SWARM: A motorist filmed the moment a massive horde of grasshoppers descended upon a road in Laglan, Queensland, Australia, last month, smashing against his windshield as he drove through. The driver, Mark Suhr, said “millions” of the large insects were “destroying thousands of hectares of grassland of beef-producing country,” a sentiment that others have reported seeing as well. One woman told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation locusts have destroyed around 8,000 acres of her family’s property where they care for cattle. Local officials warned that the swarms could reach plague proportions if the region continues to see adequate amounts of rain and healthy vegetation, as the insects are able to quickly reproduce. “With ideal conditions, the migratory locust can build up three-to-five generations,” Bertie Hennecke from the Australian Plague Locust Commission told ABC. “…You need quite a few generations to build up to get a plague situation.” #queensland #australia #locust #grasshopper #insects #bugs #agriculture

A moving car was sent airborne in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on June 22 as the heat wave impacting much of the U.S. caused a road to buckle. The man who recorded the moment said he had been filming a bulge in the pavement when “the road exploded and rose over 18 inches.” The city said that another road had also buckled due to the extreme heat. According to the National Weather Service, the heat index for Cape Girardeau was 107ºF on Sunday, with temperatures expected to remain above 100ºF for the rest of the week. #missouri #heat #heatwave #road #cars #infrastructure

Approximately 14 million bees escaped after a tractor-trailer carrying more than 70,000 pounds of pollinator hives rolled over Friday in northern Washington state, authorities said. The commercial truck hauling the honeybees overturned at about 4 a.m. in Whatcom County, Washington, which borders Canada's British Columbia, the sheriff's office said. The hives came off the truck shortly after 9 a.m., which freed the bees. Authorities said the road where the truck overturned will be closed for 24 to 48 hours to allow the bees to re-hive and find their queen bee. Authorities said the public should avoid the area and stay at least 600 feet away.

When pressed by a reporter about the lack of acknowledgment of a female pilot involved in the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth affirmed his support for all service members and criticized what he described as an excessive focus on gender. "I don't care if it's a male or a female in that cockpit and the American people don't care ... We we don't do that anymore. We don't play your little games," Hegseth said on Thursday during a press briefing. The comments come after Hegseth said Sunday following the airstrikes in Iran, "We were able to destroy nuclear capabilities. And our boys in those bombers are on their way home right now." #iran #usa #us #trump #military #gender #women
