I wrote this last spring and then dusted it off this morning because I had more to say. My feelings about my history with my mother ebb and flow. The first time I wrote this I felt complete peace, release, and gratitude for my life without my mom. That’s how I feel most of the time. It continues to be the best decision i have ever made. Today though, I woke up and decided I wanted to play piano, and as I practiced the song I have been learning, a song about betrayal, I thought of her fleetingly. And then I remembered it’s Mother’s Day. The only other feeling I have about being no-contact with my mother besides gratitude for her absence is blinding hot rage.
